tuesday night i met up with hyejin and we went and saw the new movie ray. some friends had given her two free tickets, i guess one of them works in the recording industry or something.
unfortunately i was late to meet hyejin by like fifteen minutes, solely due to the fact that i'm an idiot. i was supposed to take the subway line 3 north and meet her where it intersects line 2. the only problem with that is i take line 3 south to get home from my work, so since i'm so used to going that way, i just hopped on. before i knew it i was at the stop i usually transfer at, which is when it dawned on me that i had gone three stops in the wrong direction. i had to get out, go upstairs, go over to the other side, go back down the stairs, and wait for a train going the other way. i even had to pay again, but it's only â‚©800 (less than $0.80), so it's not a big deal.
once i finally got there, we wanted to eat dinner, so we ended up going to this noodle place right next to the subway for dinner. we chose it because it was crowded, and it turned out to be a good choice. i ate curry udon, and hyejin got some rice dumpling things. we each got a bowl of miso-like soup, which was really delicious. the total cost for the two of us was under â‚©6,000. amazing!
after that we still had an hour to kill, so we hung out in the mcdonald's that was right next to the theater. actually they had it set up so that when the movie let out you had to exit through the mcdonald's, very crafty planning. they had curly fries, so i tried them and we each got an apple pie, all for a total of â‚©2,000. i found it funny that they had the exact same deal on apple pies as they have back in the states, two for a dollar, or in this case, two for a thousand.
finally we saw the movie, which i thought was really good. especially jaimee foxx's performance. i didn't know much about ray charles before seeing it, and i especially didn't have any idea about his bout with drugs, which was a major theme of the film. definitely worth seeing if you get a chance. so far i've seen three of the best picture nominees, and this was by far my favorite of those(the others were the aviator and sideways).
