for the past few weeks, we've been spending a lot of time at work preparing for the upcoming graduation, which we finally had on saturday. in korea the school year starts in march, so in a couple of weeks the older kindergarten kids will be moving on to elementary school.
all the classes in the school, regardless of whether or not they were graduating, had to perform plays and sing songs at the graduation. practicing for them made up the brunt of all the work we were putting in. the poor kids, for the last week all we did was practice their plays over and over and over again.
they had so much to remember and everything was so chaotic on the day of the performance that none of the plays really turned out that amazingly. they were all dressed in costumes and everything, so they looked cute, and i suppose that's all that mattered. unfortunately, it was so crazy running around, i didn't get a chance to take any pictures during the plays, but i managed to get some of the graduation part of the ceremony.
jinny was dressed in her tinkerbell costume for the peter pan play they performed later. jay was captain hook, but changed into his costume later.

the tall guy in the back is carl's dad, and in front of him to the left is his mom. after the photo session was over, they came right up to me to get a picture of carl with me. even though i end up hollering at carl a lot, i really like him, and from the enthusiasm his parents showed toward me, i got the idea that they had heard good things about me from him. that made me feel good, that even though i've punished him from time to time, he still understands that i like him. his parents were so nice, it makes sense for how he could be such a nightmare sometimes, he definitely runs that family.
it's kind of sad that we won't be teaching these kids in the morning anymore, but it's not like we won't see them anymore. they'll be coming to the school in the afternoon to continue their studies. some of them are really on track to be very good english speakers. from the three morning classes (tiger, whale, and dino) they'll make two classes for the afternoon. the lower of the two is going to be crazy because all the bad boys from the morning are going to be in there. someone is going to have their hands full teaching them…
it was such a relief when it was all finally over. although i shouldn't complain, it was a little stressful getting everything prepared for the show. we had to prepare all the songs, music for the plays, backgrounds and props. doesn't sound like much, but all together for a few different classes, it wasn't easy. it was nice today to finally just get back to the routine of teaching.
