dwight invited me to a picnic today with his mom's church, but due to some early morning rain it got cancelled. regardless, i still met up with him at about 10:00a. we just walked around, he told me all about all the blind dates he's been set up on since he's been here. one girl in particular appealed to him but he hadn't gotten her info, so he was stuck just waiting and hoping she'd call to meet again before he leaves.

around noon we came back and had a nice meal at the chapel in their building. everyone was very nice to me. there was a little boy i'd met when i was there on wednesday, and of course he and i got along great since i have a lot of experience with korean five-year-olds. if you want to make a quick friend, learn how to lose at rock-paper-scissors.

while we were there dwight got word through the many mediators between him and the girl he liked that she wanted to meet up with him again. he was excited, it definitely made his day. but later when he called, he got a lukewarm response from her and they left it as she'd call if she had time to meet him. he was riding an emotional roller coaster, and all in one day. i had my own suspense going, since last night i sent an email to sue where i basically told her i was beginning to like her more than just as a friend, but i hadn't heard back from her yet.

the weather had cleared up and it turned out to be a really nice day, so dwight suggested we go check out the river. it was a great idea, so we went to apgujung, walked past my school and up to the river. it turns out there's a big park there, i hadn't been there yet, mostly since i've been waiting for the weather to be nice to go there. of course i bumped into one of my students, so i said hi and his mom was nice enough to take a picture of dwight and i.

we walked along the river, finally sat down and watched some guys playing basketball. oblivious old ladies kept cutting through the court and getting mad when the guys would bump into them. that was pretty funny.

as it got later, we headed back to where dwight and his mom were staying. we hung out watching a korean type of game show on tv where a father has to complete a challenge to win prizes for the family. then it was time for dinner, and a friend of dwight's mom treated us to an amazing dinner at a crab restaurant. there was a spicy fish entrée, some steamed crab, and my favorite, raw crab. it was really delicious, i was in food heaven.

when we got back to the apartment, him and his mom got into a bit of an argument and ended up in the bedroom having a long discussion. i took the opportunity to do what my father and his father before him have always enjoyed: the post-dinner nap. by around 9:00p i finally headed home.

shortly after i got home i got en email from sue telling me that she just wants to be friends. ouch. i really thought there were some signals there but what do i know? at least i gave it a shot. hopefully dwight will fare better.
