on tuesday after work the helpers that i'm teaching (june, kate, and sue) came over to my apartment for dinner. kate was planning to make 부대찌게 (budae chigae), a spicy soup/stew made with kimchee, spam, hot dogs, and noodles. apparently back during the korean war, when the american troops would have surplus meat, they would give it to the locals, and this is the dish they would make with it.

since my kitchen is really small and since none of us knew how to make anything, we just stayed out of kate's way and let her work her magic.

it was really good, and she made so much that there were tons of leftovers for me to enjoy for breakfast and dinner the next day. it was especially good since i was developing a cold and the spicy food really helped clear out my sinuses.
