on wednesday i was preparing to do story time with tiger class, so i picked this book out of the bookshelf at my school. i could easily see that it was a library book by the clear jacket on it, and i thought it was funny that someone might have taken the book from a library and it ended up at our school. so i quickly glanced at the barcode to see what library it was from, expecting it to be a korean one.
well, not only was it not from korea, but it was from a familiar county. i grew up in new castle county, delaware, so immediately i thought of that. but i figured there was probably another new castle county somewhere out there, it couldn't possibly be from delaware. still, i had to check.
not only is it from delaware, but it's from the kirkwood highway library, which while i don't think i've ever been there, must be very close to my parents' house. how in the world could a library book from new castle county, delaware end up in seoul, korea? and even if it did, what are the odds i'd come across it? pretty strange.
the back page confirmed that they had sold it, no one had actually run off to korea with it. it's still amazing to wonder how it could have made such a long journey. i gave it some thought, and i've decided that when i leave here i'll kidnap it and return it to the kirkwood highway library. perhaps the librarian there will enjoy the story of the book's long and amazing journey around the world.
