saturday afternoon i met up with hyejin and we went up to insadong to walk around. it was a really nice day, but as it got later, it started to get windy and a little more chilly. insadong is sort of a tourist area with lots of shops selling traditional crafts and trinkets.
hyejin knew about a really nice tea house, so once we were tired of walking around, we went over there to relax and have some traditional korean tea.
korean traditional tea is kind of strong and a bit thicker than tea generally is. mine was made from dried dates, and hyejin's was made from ginger and other spices. they were really good, and supposedly they're good for various types of ailments.
after leaving there we walked around a bit more and as we got hungry for dinner we found a quaint little back alley with lots of restaurants. the one we settled on was really small but very charming. half of it was taken up by one party of about twenty people. throughout the meal they'd break into song, clapping and cheering. it was fun, but we'd have to pause our conversation until they were finished because they were so loud.
the waiter recommended that we get their specialty, which was chicken and potatoes in a spicy sauce. of course it was really good, although at times it was a little tricky getting the meat off the bone with chopsticks.
