thursday we took the kindergarten kids on a field trip, my first since i've been here. it was a lot of fun, we went to the children's grand park, which is basically a big park with a small zoo and a small amusement park. we checked out the animals, had a picnic lunch, played some duck, duck, goose, and finally played on a jungle gym before heading back to school.
the bus ride over to the park was especially fun. i had the window open, and was just happy to be out and about, enjoying the nice weather. the kids were also really excited, when we drove over the river, i said, wow, look, the river! and they all responded with wows. then i realized i could get them to say wow at anything so i started saying, look, trees! and they'd all say wow!

some pretty flowers we saw walking toward the zoo
not sure what was going on here. luckily none of the kids asked.
these polar bears just paced back and forth, looking at the crowd
i told all the kids the bears were scoping out which one they wanted for lunch. i told them that morning he'd had a naughty little boy for a tasty breakfast. they didn't buy it.
check out the size of those horns!
i was in charge of tiger class, which was the easiest assignment of all, they're the oldest and smartest of the morning classes. they can all understand and speak english really well, and all of them except for yuna have spent some time in either america or canada. we took a break once all of them started complaining about being hot and wanting water.

from left: yuna, wonjin, jay, jaewoo, youngjae, and jinwon. three of them have some sort of jay in their names and wonjin and jinwon have the same syllables only reversed. it can get pretty confusing, especially when you're hollering to try to get their attention.
unicorn class
from left: philip (with the bright red cap), jinny, melody, daniel, leo, sam, and kayoung.
sally and yeri from koala class
then it was on to see a few more animals before lunch. once of my favorites was a huge cage with tons of different birds in it, from chickens and turkeys, to vultures and ostriches.
but the peacock was the best of them all
yuna held my hand almost the entire day
after a picnic lunch in which dozens of kids with dirty hands kept generously offering me food, we played a spirited game of duck, duck, goose. the next day i asked each kid in tiger class what they're favorite part of the day was, and they all said duck, duck, goose. so much for polar bears, i guess.
then it was on the playground, which had a jungle gym, slides, and other fun stuff.

this thing looked like some solid dangerous fun
jinwon and jaewoo (right) having some fun
it was a lot of fun, but also really tiresome. i wanted a shower and a nap, but unfortunately i still had to teach the regular afternoon schedule. miraculously, however, all three of my students in my first class didn't show up so i had a nice break.
