on friday, february 17 koizu was kind enough to give me a ride down from simi valley to los angeles so i could drop off my passport and visa application at the korean consulate in koreatown. we were in the area, so we went over to my favorite restaurant in the entire world for lunch, 길목 (gil mok, the corner place). when i think of it, i actually have a lot of history with that place. my first time there was on what basically turned out to be the first date with my ex-girlfriend like six years ago. then about a year later i brought my parents there and they tried korean food for the first time. anyways, i've been coming there for a long time, and it was definitely one of my goals to get back there while i was in los angeles this time.
by the way, if you're in the area and want to check it out, it's at 2819 james m. wood blvd, los angeles, ca 90006. you'll find it on james m wood just east of vermont, there's ample parking across the street.
that's ë?™ì¹˜ë¯¸êµìˆ˜ (dongchimi guksu), it's a delicious cold noodle soup that i can only describe by using a word my father relishes in using: refreshing. that's just what it is.
it was a perfect meal, we had just the right amount and it was every bit as good as i'd remembered. i know it's a bit strange that i've lived in korea for a year and couldn't wait to get back to los angeles and eat some korean food, but this place is special, believe me. and while i know they must have it in korea, i've never come across the cold noodle soup, and even if i did i can't imagine it could be this good. come to think of it, i should try and see if i can find a place that has it, i don't want to wait another year before i can eat it again...
