graduation
sun 3.26.06 ~ 2:43a ~ seoul, korea prev ~ next

my old school from last year had their graduation on tuesday, february 28th, and it was my goal to be back in korea in time to attend it, which luckily i was able to do. it was fun because i got to see a lot of the kids i taught last year, as well as my former co -teachers. i was also kind of proud because i got to see the kids i taught all year graduating and moving on to elementary school.

wonjin and yeri gave the speeches to start the show

the younger kids did a touching song about how much they love their moms, cute!

the kids putting on a play about the world

from left that's grace as the world, daniel, sally, harry, yeri, lenny, jack, and jiwoo representing different countries. jack as you can see is dressed as a cowboy so is of course representing the united states. they each had to say what kind of food they ate in their countries and he predictably reported that he eats hamburgers and hot dogs. then every timejiwoo next to him tried to talk he would start laughing right into the microphone, completely drowning out her voice so she couldn't be heard at all. he caught onto thatamerican thing pretty quickly.

it was great seeing these guys again, i taught them all year and ate lunch with them a lot as well. from left that's wonjin, jaewoo, yuny, youngjae, and jinwon. i was also happy to hear that jaewoo and youngjae weren't going to elementary school until next year, for a while it looked like their moms were going to push them into it too early and they weren't ready. the other kids in the class were at a higher level, and we always worried about them getting a complex that they were dumb or something because the work we were doing with them was way too hard for them. i heard that they're both doing really well now and reading much better than before and everything, so i think it was the right choice to let them do another year of kindergarten before going to elementary school.

grace was excited to see me again, and insisted that she pose for this picture

teacher, pose! were her exact words. it was really great seeing all the kids again, i missed them! it's cool because i still know the teachers at the school so once in a while i can hear updates on howeveryone's doing. it was also nice to attend the ceremony without the stress of having to worry about how the songs went and all those things i had to be concerned about last year when i was working there.
