thursday, march 2nd was my first day at my new school. we had to dress up the first two days because there were some ceremonies to commemorate the beginning of the new school year. whenever i was a kid my mom would always take a picture of my sister and i on the first day of school. so i figured, why break tradition now?
the day turned out to be mostly a waste of time. it was a bit rainy so the ceremony planned for outside didn't happen. i didn't even really see the students at all, i just spent most of the time preparing for the classes that would start the next day. the tough thing was that this is pretty much the only suit i have, so the next day i had to settle for wearing a sweater over a shirt and tie. i don't know how people do it, wearing ties and suits every day.
when i got home after that first day, i made my first meal in my new apartment, kind of a throwback to a meal i had many times last year in my old place.
gakdugi has become one of my favorite things, it is good stuff. the meal was not without casualties, however. at one point i casually reached for the pan i was frying the mandu in and my right index finger caught a metal part stupidly located at the base of the handle of the pan. it must have touched it for about a third of a second before i felt the pain and quickly recoiled in pain. within another second it was running under cold water, but the damage was done. you wouldn't think that something so quick could do so much damage, but for the rest of the night it throbbed a little in pain and felt so hot. it was even hard getting to sleep that night. then the next day it started to swell up and eventually was raised about two or three millimeters. finally my friend suggested i drain it out, so i did and then after that it took about a week for the dead skin to flake away, it was pretty gross for a while there. now it feels okay, but there is a scar there. i tried to photograph it, but it didn't really come out, you can see it in person but on film it doesn't show up much. it's not hideous or anything, compared to how it looked before it's nothing.
