last year when i was back visiting my parents for the holidays, we went to a really nice place for dinner in old new castle, delaware called jessop's tavern. i had some amazing prime rib then and i was hoping to have that again sometime during my visit home. so on wednesday, december 27th, we went back there for dinner.
there was a little bit of a wait so we sat at the bar to have a drink before we could be seated. i was excited because i remembered that they served new castle brown on tap there. but unfortunately the were out of it that night! that was the start of what for some reason was an evening in which it seemed things just weren't going our way. the service was kind of sluggish. dad's potatoes were cold and he had to ask to reheat them (they just brought out another warm batch). there weren't really any glaring problems, but enough little ones to somewhat sour the evening. i ordered the same prime rib but perhaps my memory of the last time set such a high standard that i was somewhat disappointed. it was okay, but unfortunately like much of the experience there that night, just okay.
