after looking around jagalchi market, sunam and i spent the late afternoon of thursday, january 25th at busan tower. it isn't as large as n seoul tower, but it still provided some breathtaking views of busan.
as sunam and i began to make our way down a long stairway from the tower, we were stopped by a korean man who spoke english on his way up. he got our attention and stopped us, but was still catching his breath and therefor didn't speak for a moment or two. we just waited there waiting for him to get to the point. finally he pulled out a pamphlet entitled has religion begun to lose its influence? as soon as we saw that i quickly told him we weren't interested, and we got the hell out of there. all i could think of was i hope the answer to the question his pamphlet posed is a big yes. unfortunately it was actually our second encounter of the day with an english-speaking korean eager to evangelize to other english-speakers.
at the bottom of the stairs we came across a scene that contrasted nicely with having recently been hassled.
if i had to chose, i know i'd rather go with the one that rests peacefully and welcomes anyone without feeling the need to actively hassle and aggressively convert non-believers to its way of beliefs. shouldn't any ideology supposedly so perfect and true be able to sell itself without need of annoying salesmen?
