my previous cooking experiments went so well that i kept going, and on sunday, february 4th i cooked up a few more korean dishes. first i wanted to try making 오뎅볶 (odaeng bokkeum, stir-fried fish cakes). i used this recipe and they turned out pretty good.
i'm not exactly sure what we'd call hobak in english. i think it is a kind of korean squash that looks like a cucumber or zucchini on the outside but is softer on the inside. i got the recipe to make this side dish here.
with all of these, it was really satisfying to cook them up myself, and they were all a success considering it was my first time making them. i could, however, sense that they weren't quite perfect, they still didn't live up to the kinds i've had before in restaurants or in korean homes. i'm looking forward to trying out different varieties of recipes from different sources in the future to see if i can get closer to how i think it should taste. hopefully if i keep cooking these foods eventually i can get to a point where i can experiment a little and try to put my own twist on how i like it. it's still immensely satisfying to eat a delicious meal you prepared yourself.
